Travel back in time for one night only with an evening filled with the greatest music from the Funk Generation. Ja Ronn and FLOW return to the Yoshi’s Oakland stage for immersive music revue That ‘70s FLOW. The specialized ensemble of assassin singers cover Otis Redding, Queen, Aretha Franklin and more favorites from the 1970s. The event includes a COSTUME CONTEST so zip up those hot pants and bust out that afro pick for a chance to win amazing prizes.

About Ja Ronn & FLOW
Ja Ronn & FLOW, founded in 2013 by gospel and R&B performer and instructor Ja Ronn Thompson, has performed across the country for famous names such as Quincy Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, George Lucas, Journey and more. The group was featured on Oxygen Network’s “Fix My Choir” where they worked with contemporary gospel artist Deitrick Haddon and Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams.

Ja Ronn & FLOW continue to perform regularly around Bay Area, most recently selling out back-to-back shows at Yoshi’s Oakland, packing the house for a ‘90s R&B throwback show and a night filled with love songs.

Ja Ronn & FLOW uphold the importance of higher education—all the members of the group are either in college or college graduates. Through academic counseling and mentoring, the group works to support community members to pursue higher education no matter what their age, income, or family background.

About Ja Ronn Thompson
Ja Ronn Thompson, an Oakland, California-native is a seasoned gospel, R&B, classical, and jazz performer and instructor. As a teen, he began singing in church mentored by relative, vocalist, and Director of The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Terrance Kelly. He obtained the opportunities to study privately with renowned vocal greats, Janice Maxie Reid and the incomparable Allowyn Price.

He has directed various gospel choirs and vocal ensembles, facilitating workshops around the world in locations such as Costa Rica, Africa, and Ireland. He is founder and director of the San Francisco State University Gospel Choir and Executive Director of the associated Gospel Gators organization, and esteemed vocal ensemble Ja Ronn & FLOW. In addition to these, Ja Ronn has also served as director of both The Oakland Interfaith Youth and California State University East Bay Gospel choirs.

Ja Ronn’s career achievements include leading the San Francisco State University Gospel Choir in their performance at Verizon’s 2012 “How Sweet The Sound” event, in front of a sold-out crowd at Los Angeles’s infamous Staples Center, achieving the high rank of second place within the West Coast Region. He also directed Ja Ronn & FLOW, after having been asked to perform at the wedding of acclaimed filmmaker and producer George Lucas, at his private residence at Skywalker Ranch (Nicasio, CA) in 2013.

Ja Ronn’s motto; to “sing with passion and no fear”, is a message that he instills in every one of his students and peers. He is devoted to true foundational teaching and encouraging growth, in an effort to help all individuals understand where their passion and gifts come from. “My ultimate goal is to make the world a better place through God’s gift of music.”
