RECORD RELEASE SHOW "LIVE AT ROCKWOOD NYC"

On Tuesday July 24 at Yoshi’s Oakland there will be a special event as Jim Campilongo, Nels Cline, Chris Morrissey, Josh Dion will celebrate their critically acclaimed 2018 release “Jim Campilongo Trio - Live at Rockwood with Chris Morrissey and Josh Dion with special guest Nels Cline”.

Campilongo says “it’s such a rare thing our schedules allow us to play together and I’m so happy we can do our thing in the Bay Area with friends and family”

“Live At Rockwood” has earned great reviews that are outstanding, even in the context of a Campilongo release. VINTAGE GUITAR wrote “…the Jim Campilongo Trio with Chris Morrissey on bass and Josh Dion on drums, go off on beautifully telepathic tangents with inspired tunes and effortless musicality…"VINTAGE GUITAR wrote “…(Nels)Cline’s … “Cock and Bull” highlights all the players brilliant use of dynamics, gliding between what sounds like English parlor music and riff-laden Rock & Roll…”” TONEQUEST MAGAZINE wrote “…another stellar Campilongo record from the fertile mind of Jim Campilongo. How does he do it? Damned if we know…”.

Ted Drozdowski, senior editor for PREMIERE GUITAR wrote “…With one guitar, a Fender Princeton, and his imaginative technique, NYC guitarist Jim Campilongo creates an alternate universe of sounds, captured on his new album ‘Live at Rockwood Music Hall NYC’…”

Billboard Magazine calls Jim Campilongo "an American treasure", an accolade which this guitarist's artistry and influential career has richly earned him. TIMEOUTNYC describes Campilongo perfectly- ”New York has no shortage of guitar heroes but few cover as many bases as Jim Campilongo reveals a range that extends from seductive country-swing to atmospheric jazz and well beyond.” and the NEW YORKER says "There it was again: the stinging treble, the spooky overtones, the strings snapping and booming under his hands the sound of a Tele being played as skillfully and exuberantly as it can be played it sounded like nothing and nobody else sounded like Jim Campilongo."

Joining the trio is long-time musical cohort Nels Cline. Guitar explorer Nels Cline is best known these days as the lead guitarist in the band Wilco. His recording and performing career — spanning jazz, rock, punk and experimental — is well into its fourth decade, with over 200 recordings, including at least 30 for which he is leader. Cline has received many accolades including Rolling Stone anointing him as both one of 20 "new guitar gods" and one of the top 100 guitarists of all time.

Shaping the trio's personal sound with Campilongo is the formidable rhythm section of Josh Dion (d) and Chris Morrissey (b). Dion, the front man of the New York art-funk duo Paris Monster also boasts a long and eclectic list of world class collaborators including Wayne Krantz, Greg Allman, Bill Evans and Warren Haynes. Josh's rare musicianship is as at home painting and pummeling in the trio's iconoclastic rendition of "Manic Depression" as it is crooning their version of the Ray Charles blues "Here Am I".

The Jím Campilongo Trio's joyful abandon is urged onward by its bassist, Chris Morrissey. He is a veteran member of globe trekking jazz outfits such as The Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet and The Dave King Trucking Company, and has held music directorships with popular artists Sara Bareilles and Trixie Whitley. His own writing earned him the Residency Commission from New York's "Jazz Gallery" in 2015.

The Yoshis Record release show of “Jim Campilongo Trio - Live at Rockwood with Chris Morrissey and Josh Dion with special guest Nels Cline” at Yoshi’s on July 24 is a rare, special event that will be a treat for the musicians and music lovers everywhere.
