 dquo\; are among his mainstream highlights.  &nbsp\;But Bill Champlin&rsqu
 o\;s defining work with the Sons of Champlin and as a  songwriter put him 
 on the musical map long before he arrived in Chicago.  Bill and the Sons w
 ere blowing the doors off venues back in the &rsquo\;70s -  and they retur
 ned to doing the same in the late &rsquo\;90s and into the  present.&rdquo

 eing a member of Chicago\, which he joined in 1981 and remained a member o
 f for 28 years. However\, his career encompasses a whole lot more. \n\nBil
 l's first band\, The Opposite Six\, was formed in 1961\, while he was stil
 l in high school. Later\, The Sons of Champlin formed in 1965 as a five-pi
 ece band\, and later expanded to seven members. The Sons recorded seven co
 mmercially released albums between 1968 and 1977 and gained a devoted fan 
 base. However\, they never quite made it on the national scene\, and disba
 nded in 1977. \n\nAt this point\, Bill moved to L.A. to begin his solo car
 eer and also to write and record on many other artists' albums. Bill recei
 ved two GRAMMY awards for his songwriting and has released seven solo albu
 ms. He has recording credits on numerous albums by various artists that co
 ver a 30-year period. \n\nIn 1997\, the Sons of Champlin reformed and are 
 performing again\, whenever schedules permit. Over the past few years\, th
 e Sons have also released two live albums and a DVD\, as well as their fir
 st new studio album in almost 30 years\, &quot\;Hip Li'l Dreams.&quot\;
