STRUNZ & FARAH:

World-jazz acoustic guitarists Strunz & Farah, from Costa Rica and Iran respectively, have pioneered their authentic Latin & Middle Eastern fusion since 1979. They have been nominated for a Grammy in world music, have had three recordings at or near the top of the Billboard world music charts, and have received two presidential awards from the government of Costa Rica for their cultural contributions. They are regarded as among the world's top acoustic guitar players and have originated an extremely influential style of exotic improvisational guitar playing that reflects their ethnic roots.

'Moods and Visions' is Strunz & Farah's 20th release and 15th studio recording of all new material. It  celebrates 35 years of the duo's highly successful collaboration, continuing and evolving their original synthesis of multi-cultural elements into a flowing, melodic and rhythmic acoustic guitar style of high virtuosity. Spectacular improvisations flash through their always colorful sonic weavings. These renowned master instrumentalists are accompanied by a top flight ensemble of rhythm section and flute. PEPPINO D'AGOSTINO:

Peppino D’Agostino emerged on the acoustic guitar scene in the late 1980’s and joined a second-wave of musicians who helped to redefine the boundaries of the acoustic guitar. His virtuosic fingerstyle technique, use of percussive effects, and a penchant for creating beautiful melodies continues to inspire musicians today and his natural charm, playfulness, and ease on stage has audience’s adoring him.  On albums like Acoustic Spirit, Close to the Heart, and Every Step of the Way, which was named one of the top three acoustic guitar albums of all time by Acoustic Guitar magazine readers in 2008, it would have been hard to predict all the ways that he would continue to evolve and grow.

D’Agostino’s broad appreciation for diverse styles of music, has him simultaneously collaborating in the classical, world-music, and rock genres.  At any given time, he may be in concert with the Pacific Guitar Ensemble and classical guitarist David Tanenbaum, chairman of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; or on stage with drummer Jeff Campitelli, one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time; or seen performing music from around the world with legendary Paraguayan harpist and violinist Carlos Reyes. D’Agostino’s composition “Stammi Vicino,” written with electric guitarist Stef Burns and Italian rock star Vasco Rossi, reached number one in the iTunes rock charts in Italy. “Vasco is fairly unknown outside of Italy,” D’Agostino says, “but he’s the biggest star in Italy. This song was on the 2011 CD that sold the most in Italy, and it started with an instrumental composition of mine.”

Peppino’s most recent solo recording, Penumbra, released in 2014, draws from his deepening well of musical relationships. “There has been an evolution in my playing because I have had the opportunity to play and learn from such a diverse group of incredibly talented musicians, and this new CD reflects that,” he says. “How can I not be influenced by such great players? You don’t realize how much, because it goes into your brain, and you can’t quantify it, but working with these amazing people, and knowing them, has made a difference in my approach. I definitely feel that this recording expresses all those various influences.”  Producer Robi Kauker and sound engineer Christopher Davidson, were a perfect match for the complex and challenging pieces on Penumbra.
