The Marcus Shelby Orchestra featuring the Dynamic Miss Faye Carol will present a special concert celebrating Black History at the San Francisco Yoshi's on February 6, 2014.  This concert will feature compositions from several of the orchestra’s past recordings including “Harriet Tubman”, “Soul of the Movement: Meditations on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” and “Port Chicago”.  Much of the music in fact composed and arranged by Marcus Shelby has focused on illuminating Black History, both past and present.  Legendary vocalist and educator Faye Carol will be featured with the Marcus Shelby Orchestra along with other special guests.  Other works on the program include music composed by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.  The Marcus Shelby orchestra will also play excerpts from its new musical work called “Walls” which celebrates the 50th year anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Law.
