Will Downing releases the single “Turn Off The Lights” from the forthcoming album Euphoria on his independent Sophisticated Soul label.  Always careful to avoid the term “Re-make” when treading on a true R&B classic, Downing’s approach is guided by artistic “Interpretation.”  Recognizing the listener’s uncontrollable urge to simultaneously hear and compare the original, the saavy crooner avoids the trap of imitation and the resulting track is a fresh, smooth and original take with a respectful nod to the late Philly legend and hugely influential Mr. Teddy Pendergrass.

With that said, let’s get to what’s real. Clearly this song (along with “Come Go With Me” and “Close The Door”) is part of the Trinity that launched Teddy-mania.  As with all songs Downing has interpreted, he doesn’t do it if he can’t bring something new to it!!!  To quote Will from a similarly themed segment on his weekly radio show, “It’s an Interpretation not a Competition,…one song done by two artists.”  On this 2014 version of “Turn Off The Lights,” our Soul Brother Will takes some bold strides in his own direction, but trust and believe…you’ll get to the “promised land.”  This is seductive & sexy aural foreplay, further enhanced with a sax solo by Will’s long time musical partner Gerald Albright to seal the deal.  Always seeking and finding new ways to keep his fans engaged, Will Downing sets a more intimate lounge vibe on both this track and much of Euphoria, evoking the soft warm mood of a private show in your living room…or your bedroom…or wherever you need to Turn Off The Lights!
