ElDesayuno is an improvisational Latin Jazz band based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Influences include classic legends such as Eddie Palmieri and Cachao, to contemporaries such as Jimmy Bosch and Poncho Sanchez. The band plays some of their material, but features several original compositions as well. The band has released four records in its five years, which can be found on iTunes and other digital destinations.
The band plays larger venues with it's nine-piece lineup consisting of Michael Cerda on bass and vocals, Alberto Torres on congas and vocals, David Solis on timbales and vocals, Javier Cabanillas on bongos and vocals, Jamie Dubberly on trombone and vocals, Rolf Johnson on trumpet and vocals, Cory Wright on sax and vocals, Ben Dean on piano, and Bob Knight on guitar. The band also plays as a trio, quartet and quintet.
ElDesayuno began as an accident five years ago when band leader Michael Cerda had a show scheduled with another band called Big Breakfast, and at the last minute some of the members became unavailable. In a pinch, Cerda called the remaining Breakfast members, as well as conguero Alberto Torres and trombonist Jamie Dubberly. On very short notice, the band attempted its hand at Latin Jazz, and so it was. Before too long, the band debuted in earnest at Armando's in Martinez, CA. Since then, the band has grown and evolved, playing wineries, clubs, festivals, and parties in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City.
