"Monheit's music is illuminating and yet very personal. The audience is
captured." -- Linell Smith, Baltimore Sun
"The seven original compositions here represent different periods in
Krimm's growth from 1978 to 1981, and his accomplished playing on them is enough to make even Jaco sit up and take notice. ... This is a gifted bassist who bears watching." -- Bill Milkowski of Downbeat, "Sentience" liner notes
Gary Monheit - piano
Dan Krimm - fretless bass
Gary Monheit and Dan Krimm started performing together over 35 years ago, in an exploratory era influenced by such artists as Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius and Eddie Gomez. They bring that era's spirit of invention into the present as a duo, with several original compositions, both older and recent, as well as classic tunes of the times and a few special "re-setting" arrangements.
This is their third appearance for Yoshi's Local Talent Series, after well-received initial dates in April and June 2013.
Dan has recently released an album recording from a live concert in 1993, entitled "Last Chance Jazz" -- see: http://dankrimm.munb.com/lastchancejazz.html
Mike Oppenheim, in Guitar International, writes: "Krimm’s bass solo [on 'Walden'] is as melodic as it is virtuosic ... [his] compositional talents and fretless bass chops make him an exceptional and unique leader."
