VOENA: Voices of The River

April 28, 2013

Multi-cultural children's choir

“If the world had the heart and the courage to see you and hear you, we would be different - we would be changed.  You are exactly what the world needs.  In your innocence and in your youth and talent, you can teach us so much.” --Dr. Maya Angelou

Sunday, Apr 28 at 6pm

  • $12 - Children (14 and under)

VOENA is a captivating, multi-cultural, world music experience that redefines “choir” the way Cirque du Soleil redefines “circus.”  Director, Annabelle Marie inspires over 140 children from ages 6-18 to celebrate music through voice, sound, rhythm and movement. Singing in over 23 languages, VOENA has performed around the globe bringing their message to unite the world with children’s voices.  VOENA has performed at the 2012 London Olympics, as repeat guests at the White House, for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in Rome and as goodwill ambassadors to Ireland, China, Japan and Italy.  VOENA was the first American Choir to sing at the Soweto Festival in South Africa.

About the Show:
VOENA multi-cultural children’s choir takes the stage for the first time this season at Yoshi’s San Francisco performing their new multi-lingual repertoire VOICES OF THE RIVER.  With songs such as Down To The River To Pray and Gula Gula, a little know language from Northern Europe called Sami, VOENA will inspire audiences with their infectious sound and unique style of physical singing.  Their debut follows their 2012 performance at the London Olympics at Olympic Park and Central Hall Westminster.
