DESCRIPTION:THE MUSICAL ART QUINTET: \n\nThe Musical Art Quintet was formed
in 2008 in the Mission district of San Francisco during chamber music jam
sessions every Sunday night at Cafe Revolution. Each week a new piece of
music was written by MAQ band leader Sascha Jacobsen to be performed at Cl
assical Revolution\, and ink still wet\, we would read through the piece i
 n front of a live audience.&nbsp\; As our repertoire grew\, a core group o
f players emerged and the quintet was founded. The name of the quintet is
taken from The Musical Art Quartet\, a string quartet formed in the 1940's
and led by the Great-Grandfather and namesake of the bassist and composer
of the quintet\, violinist\, Sascha Jacobsen.\n\nAlthough classically tra
ined\, the members of The Musical Art Quintet are skilled improvisors and
each one brings with him a special area of expertise. Whether it is Argent
 ine Tango\, Afro-Cuban Son\, Klezmer\, Classical works\, or even Electroni
ca\, the Quintet is at home.&nbsp\; The music of band leader\, Sascha Jaco
bsen\, is essentially rhythmic in nature\, utilizing dance forms to propel
his melodies forward.&nbsp\; Each piece is based on a dance form\, but in
stead of a Sarabande or a Gigue\, Jacobsen uses rhythms like Cha-cha-cha o
r Milonga.\nNuevo Chamber is the name for this new genre that blends world
  \nmusic in&#64258\;uences with a chamber music ensemble\, infusing rhythm
 s \nfrom Argentina\, Cuba\, Africa\, Jazz\, Classical and even Electronica
\ninto a new style of music. The Quintet has cemented it's status as a to
p world music string ensemble with recent recordings with the Nuevo Flamen
co guitarist\, Stevan Pasero (Twelve Shades of Night\, 2011\, Sugo records
) and with the Argentine Tango group\, Trio Garufa (El Rumor de tus Tangos
\, 2010\, Garufa records). The Musical Art Quintet's website\nQUARTET SAN
FRANCISCO:\n\nGrammy nominees for their last three CD releases (2009\, 200
7\, and 2006) and International Tango competition winners (New York\, 2004
)\, Quartet San Francisco expresses itself in its agility and standout vir
tuosic playing. Quartet San Francisco was founded in 2001 by celebrated Ba
y Area violinist and composer-arranger Jeremy Cohen. Violinist Matthew Sze
mela&nbsp\;began his collaboration with QSF in 2012 and violist Keith Lawr
ence has been a member since 2008. Cellist Kelley Maulbetsch joined the gr
oup as its interim cellist in March 2012. As crossover specialists QSF exc
els in multiple styles &mdash\; from jazz to tango\, pop to funk\, blues t
o bluegrass\, gypsy swing to big band and beyond. Quartet San Francisco's
