Additional info on H.A.V.E.
We're focusing our efforts on raising the awareness of H.A.V.E. (Helping American Veterans Endure!) which is under the fiscal sponsorship of non-profit Agape Foundation. H.A.V.E. was first started with the mission of bringing organic foods into the VA Hospital and into the lives of veterans and their families. We're also assisting with the PSTD challenge and the epidemic of suicides amongst our veterans (18 per day), and we're using the power of musical expression to assist with that cause!
PTSD affects 15-31% of our Vietnam Veterans and 20 % of our Iran/Afghanistan Veterans. The death rate among men with PTSD is 25% higher than for those without PTSD. Veterans with PTSD are 2.2 times more likely to die within a year of surgery than those without PTSD.
The monolithic magnitude of the detrimental effect of PTSD diagnosis on postoperative mortality is unexpectedly large. The number of veterans returning home from current conflicts with PTSD who require surgical treatment is expected to increase in the future, which further accentuates the need to consider a comprehensive variety of potential traditional and non traditional treatments in helping to reduce the number of veterans with PTSD.!
On a per capita basis, there's a higher number of Native American's serving our country, and as perhaps would be expected, the native population has an even higher percentage of suicides!
We are all veterans of life...veterans of war and peace, and truth be told, we won't have peace in our individual and/or collective lives, until the wars and battles raging within our brothers and sisters have been healed!
It is my belief that having one day a year designated as Veteran's Day is not enough when it comes to honoring and respecting our veterans, and as every veteran is an elder, we must show our respect on a moment to moment, day to day basis.
Nor is one month a year enough to truly honor our Native Heritage, so our celebrations in November 2009 are a continuation of creative efforts designed to increase awareness and provide positive alternatives for our people, our veterans, our Essential, as well as our, Quintessential selves, while honoring elders such as Russell Big Chief Moore, Chief of Big Chiefs, Big Chief Tootie Montana, Rex Redhouse, Big Chief Jolly, Jim Pepper, Indian Joe Morris, Chief Dennis Alley, and the Beloved Gaia Mama Divine Feminine Essence!
Anything you can do to assist will be most appreciated, and of course if there's anything I can do for you please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks again! (Louis-Virie Blanche Executive Events Coordinator for H.A.V.E.)
