MANNY MOKA & The Band On Fire

March 20, 2012

"Manny Moka leads a grooving and hard hitting Latin Jazz ensemble that you rarely hear today. Manny brings the local masters of our day from the west and east coasts, always capturing the feeling of excitement through powerful arrangements of originals and favorite standards. The latest effort, "Manny Moka", demonstrates the ability to merge the traditions of Afro-Cuban-Caribbean rhythms with jazz harmonies in a swinging blend of energy and virtuosity. The Manny Moka group is a must to check out!" - FM 94.1 KPFA Berkeley

Brooklyn born Manny Moka began studying classical piano at an early age, but soon found himself influenced by the exposure to the broad musical spectrum that serves as an underscore to life in New York City. He eventually moved to the west coast doing independent production and arranging, but maintains close ties back east. His current album on lamp88 records features a stellar group of musicians putting down some burning tracks of original tunes that combine a sassy, funky attitude with picante latin rhythms.

With an 8 piece back-up band consisting of 4 horns, congas, timbales, bass and drums, and comprised of the best musicians available, the music of Manny Moka and his ensemble has an energy and drive guaranteed to create excitement anywhere they play. From the first notes to the last chords, you’ll be treated to great musicians having a great time playing great tunes in a set you won’t soon forget.
