Every 3rd Wednesday, Maisha Productions presents “Bahia,” as part of Yoshi’s Globalistic! series. “Bahia” is a magical, mystical journey into Afro-Brazilian music and culture, encompassing Afro- and brazza-house, bossa nova and nuevo bossa, tropicalismo, samba, Brazilectro, batucada, remixes, and traditional styles.
The party is named after the state of Bahia on Brazil’s Northeastern coast, a seminal region in the development of Afro-Brazilian culture, known for its sugar and cocoa plantations, as well as the birthplace of samba, candomble, and capoeira.
Every month, beginning February 17, resident DJ Jeremiah will be joined by a rotating list of guest DJs, as well as live percussionists and samba dancers. The night also features Caipirinha drink specials to help get you into the vibrant Amazonian groove. Consider “Bahia” not just another club night, but a monthly carnival, bringing Afro-Brazilian flavor to SF nightlife.
