Lounge: Globalistic w/ DJ Jeremiah, Energia do Samba and Fogo na Roupa

February 17, 2010

DJ Jeremiah

Globalistic

It’s now easier to travel around the world than ever before. In fact, you don’t even have to leave The City to do it. Every Wednesday Yoshis SF’s exciting new weekly live music series, “Globalistic,” fittingly brings the best in local world music to a world-class venue. Afro-Brazilian, Reggae, Latin, and World Jazz-themed parties alternate each week, making Yoshis SF your one-stop virtual travel destination for global groove.

Globalistic is a collaboration between Yoshis SF and some of the areas best and most diverse promoters. Together, they have created a weekly live series for world music aficionados and dancefloor enthusiasts which brings the culture, flavor and rhythms of the world to one central location.

In the weeks to come, Globalistic patrons will be treated to a tantalizing rhythmic cuisine: exotic, ethnic-tinged live jazz (presented by Beyond Jazz); carnival-ready Afro-Brazilian club jams played by DJ Jeremiah and guest DJs, enhanced by live percussionists and dancers (presented by Maisha Productions); and steamy, seductive and fevered Latin musica (presented by Jimmy Vargas). On months with a 5th Wednesday, special collaborative efforts are planned, combining some or all of the above genres for a truly distinctive evening that’s both a party and a geography lesson all in one!

Before the bands get rolling, some of the Bay Area’s most acclaimed DJs will get the party started. To help attendees get into the world spirit (and entice them onto the dancefloor easier), globally-themed drink specials include Cuba Libres and Caipirinhas And, because these uncertain economic times can make even traveling to a nightclub to hear live music difficult for some, the cover charge is an extremely reasonable five dollars at the door. Even if you’re maintaining a low-profile “staycation” and keeping it local, how can you refuse? Grab your passport—or, just your ID—and make your next trip around the world as simple as hitting the Yoshis SF dancefloor Wednesday nights!
