Latin Renaissance woman Rebeca Mauleón returns to Yoshi’s Oakland with her powerhouse Afro Kuban Fusion ensemble for a special matinee show, featuring a stellar line-up including Cuban drum phenomenon Jimmy Branly (Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chucho Valdés), guitar icon Vernon Black (Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston), virtuoso bassist Gary Brown (Flora & Airto), percussionist Jesús Diaz (QBA), trumpeter Mike Olmos and trombonist Marty Wehner.
One of the most electrifying bands around today, Afro Kuban Fusion showcases the remarkable sounds of Cuban music fused with rock and jazz in high-energy and unbridled fashion. The extraordinary musicianship in the band combined with Mauleón’s leadership and an eclectic repertoire allow the musicians to cut loose, bringing audiences to their feet. Rebeca Mauleón has been heralded as one of the “hippest bandleaders in Latin music” and is celebrated by the critics as the leading figure among the Top Five Women in Latin Jazz.
