Orquesta La Moderna Tradicion - Open Dance Floor!
April 13, 2011
8pm show $16
Don't miss Orquesta la Moderna Tradición playing Cuban dance music from sensual danzones to slamming timba-charangueada with special "guest" Roberto Borrell on congas. We have been reworking some of our past material just for this show - it will really get you moving. Roberto was co director of the group since it's inception and is a truly marvelous percussionist and dancer. He currently resides in Peru and is in town for the show. Maybe we can even talk him into busting out a few classic Cuban steps. We are really looking forward to this reencuentro and will have our usual line-up including Carlos Caro, Eduardo Herrera, Felix Samuel, Bob Karty, Steve Senft-Herrera, Sandy Poindexter, Chus Alonso, Sage Baggott, Don Gardner and Tregar Otton.
More on the Orquesta:
"Their cadence is so sensual that it's virtually irresistible!"
-Enrique Fernandez, Miami Sun Sentinel
At the first note, you'll want to jump out of your seat. Violins and flutes weave lilting melodies against the backdrop of driving Afro-Cuban rhythms. The orchestra's repertoire ranges from traditional ballads to the latest salsa and timba grooves with surprising twists: you should hear their spin on the old church tune 'Golden Slippers' As one critic put it: "Imagine a blend of Tito Puente and a tango, and you'll begin to get an idea of the power and beauty of this music."
