Conventionally, the flute in jazz and popular music has been a doubling or color instrument and not used with the same frequency as other melodic wind instruments such as the saxophone, trumpet or trombone. John Calloway and the Flute Odyssey bring the flute to the forefront and keep it there. Eight accomplished flute players take us down different paths of flute playing that represent various cultures, techniques, and philosophies. Not your traditional flute ensemble evening by any stretch of the imagination!
Tim Barsky: beat - box flute
John Calloway: flute, Cuban flute
Quique Cruz: antara, quena (Andean flutes)
Roger Glenn: flute, piccolo
Masaru Koga: flute, Japanese flutes (shakuhaci, shinobue)
Miguel Martinez: flute, indigenous Mexican flutes
Hafez Modirzadeh: flute, ney (Persian flute)
Kenny Stahl: flute
Francis Wong : flute
