Vocalist and songwriter Jacqui Naylor returns to her native Bay Area and beloved Yoshi’s after acclaimed debuts at Ronnie Scotts in London, Blue Note in New York, Milan and Tokyo, Jamboree in Barcelona, and Women In Jazz Festival in Germany. She has seven recordings on Ruby Star / Warner and her eighth, Lucky Girl, will be released later this year. “I feel exceedingly lucky. I get to make music with heartfelt musicians, play live for devoted fans, and all at a club that has some of the best sound in the whole world”, says Naylor of her upcoming Yoshi’s show. Here is what the press says about this eclectic artist.

Vogue Espana calls Naylor “the new voice of jazz and pop.” JazzTimes calls her “an incomparable triple threat, serving up classic covers with the best of them, delivering top-drawer originals and inspiring with the musical marriage she calls ‘acoustic smashing’,"  This is a technique The Wall Street Journal claims “marked a turning point in Naylor’s career,” where the artist sings a complete jazz standard over a well-known rock groove or vice versa. Indeed, her albums have placed in the top ten in USA Today, The Washington Post and Jazziz Magazine.  “She has the chops and sensibility to pull it off,” writes the New York Times. “Her whisky-tinged voice can bring to mind a mid-career Peggy Lee,” chimes the Seattle Times.

From her upcoming release, the title track, “Lucky Girl,” and single, “Dreamin’ Prayin’ Wishin’,” have already been picked up for use by Amoro Jewelry. And from her previous recording, You Don’t Know Jacq, the single “Celebrate Early & Often” was named “the new wedding standard” by Martha Stewart Weddings and used in advertising for Novell Wedding Rings. Her inspiring get-out-to-vote song, “Rise Up” was featured on the Obama website.

“Part jazz chanteuse and part folk-pop-leaning singer/songwriter, she enjoys nothing more than mixing things up. She could easily get by performing only her own material, but her covers and standards are so appealingly original in their execution that her albums wouldn't be the same without them,” writes All Music Guide. “Naylor has the vocal ability and talent for telling a story. No matter what musical context she puts herself in—jazz, pop or rock—she will turn it into a captivating narrative,” states All About Jazz

You can hear Naylor’s new, never-before-heard originals and breathtaking interpretations of standards at Yoshi’s. She’ll be performing with the trio from her last five recordings, including Art Khu (piano, B3, guitar), Jon Evans (bass) and Josh Jones (drums). You can write the artist to request a song from one of her CDs, watch videos and read more at www.jacquinaylor.com
