The Jesse Scheinin Band and Kazemde George & The Household
January 17, 2011
8pm Show $10
The Jesse Scheinin Band
Saxophonist Jesse Scheinin (Shay-nin) is looking for something new. Music that sounds and feels like 2010, but that has the energy and spontaneity of '60s jazz - Sigur Rós meets Coltrane - is the goal. His songs are about dreams, adventures, and growing up. Inspired by the Magical Realism of authors Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Haruki Murakami, and Jorge Louis Borge, they reach to bring listeners into a state of fantasy.
Having been mentored by Joshua Redman, Danilo Perez, and Billy Harper, Jesse is completing his studies at the Berklee College of Music. At 21, he has performed with many top artists, including Jack DeJohnette, Matt Wilson and Louie Bellson.
Kazemde George and The Household
Early Jazz musicians used popular dance music, Swing, as a departure point for creating a new art form based on complex rhythms, harmonies, and improvisations: Be-Bop. Kazemde George & the Household applies a similar approach in their music, but rather than playing off of Swing music, they use modern dance music: Hip-Hop. The Household uses Hip-Hop instrumentals as a platform for group improvisation while remaining firmly grounded in the Jazz tradition The band got together at New England Conservatory of Music where they receive instruction from some of the world’s top Jazz artists such as Cecil McBee, Billy Hart, Jason Moran, Danilo Pérez, and Miguel Zenon.
