Something New In The West - The LaJJazzO in America
The LaJJazzO, located in Brandenburg, was founded twenty years ago. 2008 Jiggs Whigham, an internationally renowned jazz trombonist and big band conductor ( BBC Big Band ), took over the artistic direction of the band. Under his leadership, the Youth Jazz Orchestra of Brandenburg blossomed into a young big band which meets all the highest musical standards. This was followed by awards and prizes for the young jazz musicians from Brandenburg.
In its anniversary year, the LaJJazzO guests after concerts in Berlin and Brandenburg in the mother country of jazz and presents itself at its 17-day U.S. tour for the first time a large audience in North America. From July 20 to August 4, the LaJJazzO plays seven concerts under the direction of Jiggs Whigham in legendary jazz clubs like the Tula's Jazz Club in Seattle, Yoshi's in Oakland or at Lake Tahoe. On top of that it takes part in the prestigious Jazz Workshop in Port Townsend with American top-class Jazz musicians. In the concerts, the young big band pays homage to the music of American composers and arrangers such as Rob McConnell and John Clayton and also presents European big band music of Helmut Brandt and Steve Gray.
