Kai's debut as a band leader came in the fall of 2011 to a full house at San Francisco's premier live music venue Yoshi's. After his pioneering work with the John McLaughlin Trio and Garaj Mahal, Kai began crafting compositions which reflected his appreciation for various traditions such as Indian, West African and Middle Eastern music. On the other hand there is a connection to Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power and Stevie Wonder in Kai’s music. The Funk and R&B influences reach back in Kai's life to a time long before the beginning of his musical career.

Kai Eckhardt Band is an international band of accomplished, inspired musicians coming together from across the globe to deliver a mix of original sounds with modern grooves and exquisite harmonic passages.

Osam Ezzeldin: keyboards
Osam Ezzeldin is beyond reasonable doubt one of the brightest shining lights on the keyboard horizon today. The North-African born prodigy was awarded the United States citizenship after receiving a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music following his first appearance in the United States. After honing his skills in Dallas Texas, Boston, Cairo and Istanbul, Osam Ezzeldin is for the first time showcasing his talent in San Francisco after working with India’s incomparable Zakir Hussain, Billy Cobham and Steely Dan’s bass legend Chuck Rainey. Osam’s versatility in World Music makes him an especially valuable addition to a new generation of jazz virtuosos.

Dana Hawkins: drums
Dana Hawkins is one of the most sought after drummers today. He is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music where he studied drums for 3 years. He has toured with MeShell Ndegeocello, Eldar Djangirov, Estelle, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jeremy Pelt, Esperanza Spalding, Marcus Strickland, Jacque Schwartz-Bart, Ada Rovatii and many others. Dana is currently living in Baltimore and spends much of his time on the road and in the studio. His ability to play groove, multi meters and virtuosic phrases makes his contribution to the music in Kai Eckhardt’s Band invaluable.

Christopher Robinson: guitar
Chris Robinson originates from Sydney, Australia. Being a new immigrant to the United States he has quickly mastered an impressive variety of styles while retaining a distinct voice on his instrument. A high degree of sensitivity paired with flawless technical prowess make Chris Robinson a most valuable player who should be closely watched for his contributions in the years to come. Since his arrival in the US he has shared the stage with Indian percussion master Trilok Gurtu, Eddie Jobson from the band U.K., jazz bassist David Friesen, Turkish pop superstar Sertab Erener, Trey Gunn from King Crimson, drummers Dave Weckl, Marco Minnemann, Simon Phillips and more.
