Holiday for Swingers:
George Cole w/ special guest
December 18, 2013
Gypsy jazz & uptown swing
Wednesday, December 18
George Cole’s “Holiday for Swingers” offers a delectable feast of guitar and violin virtuosity, whimsically mixing the “Holiday for Strings” ingredient with the “Gypsy Jazz and Uptown Swing” for which George is already renowned.
The “Holiday for Swingers” lineup is led by George Cole on guitar and vocals, with two-time Grammy Award winning violinist Mads Tolling as a special guest. Also featured are Sheldon Brown on clarinet, Kaeli Earle on bass and vocals, and guitarist Patrick Anseth.
George Cole's original music celebrates the great American Songbook with sparkling melodies and lyrics, breathtaking harmonies, and guitar virtuosity melding the dynamic styles of gypsy jazz and swing a la Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt with the acoustic string-driven French sound of “Le Jazz Hot.”
Influenced by Cole Porter, George Gershwin and other great swing era composers, George weaves together his distinctive originals with songs by the masters for an exciting synthesis of upbeat American swing with a continental flair. In “Holiday for Swingers,” he’ll also stir in some holiday classics as well as delightful surprises.
This happy holiday show is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and set your toes to tapping. It’s a sure-fire way to catch the spirit!
