Azúcar con Aché is a mesmerizing multicultural ensemble of women based in the San Francisco Bay Area who play salsa and Latin jazz style music. The band name means “Sweetness with Powerful Blessings”, which aptly characterizes their thrilling musicianship and riveting stage presence. Azúcar con Aché’s songs - performed in English, Spanish and Portuguese - are a spicy, spirited mix of original compositions and tasty arrangements of standard tunes. The band members’ musical backgrounds are diverse, drawing from traditions originating in Africa, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, New York, Cuba as well as California. Equally at ease performing on major stages or for intimate gatherings, Azúcar con Aché has been specially featured at events such as the U.C. Berkeley Empowering Women of Color Conference, the Multicultural Community Center’s Night of Cultural Resistance and the National Center for Lesbian Rights’ Annual Gala Celebration. Tonight on the Yoshi’s stage, Azúcar Con Aché’s enticing rhythms, stellar talent and high-energy delivery will lift your spirits and cause your body to get up and into dancing mode before you know it – we dare you to keep your feet still!
