Named after saxophonist Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and raised in Harlem, where music and the Pentecostal faith helped shape him, Patterson and his family relocated to California, where young Rahsaan began a television career (notably KIDS Incorporated). He segued into songwriting, then made his self-titled solo debut in 1997. His latest CD, Wines & Spirits, finds the adventurous Patterson weaving ambient sound, rock, jazz, hip-hop, and gospel into his distinctive and soulful musical brew.
