The Night Jazz Band, formerly known as the Diablo Valley College Night Jazz Band, was considered as one of the top Community College evening jazz ensembles in California, and one of the longest running at 41+ years. The band is now a private pro band that plays at local clubs like Yoshi’s and Armando’s, and concerts at colleges and other schools in the area. The group achieved a top-notch reputation by winning or placing high in the Pacific Coast Collegiate and Reno Jazz Festivals many times. The Night Jazz Band has recorded 3 CDs, the first featuring Phil Woods and the second featuring Toshiko Akiyoshi. The latest release is DVC Jazz Live at Yoshi’s w/ Bob Mintzer, which is available on Amazon. For more info visit our Facebook page at facebook.com/nightjazzband.
The band has performed with a stellar list of great guest artists including Joe Henderson, Clark Terry, Wayne Bergeron, Bill Watrous, Bruce Forman, Bobby Hutcherson, Don Menza, John Clayton, Gordon Goodwin, Ed Shaughnessy, Grant Geissman, Bob Mintzer, Wayne Wallace, Tom Politzer and more.
All of the musicians in The Night Jazz Band are top notch professional players, and some are school music and private lesson teachers. Many of them have played in the band for years, leading to a very tight band with a unique and distinctive sound and reputation. The group plays a wide variety of big band musical styles from classic to modern, including charts from many of the top big bands in jazz history – Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich – and current top bands like Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, Maria Schneider, Charles Mingus, the Vanguard Orchestra and more. The Night Jazz Band is available for hire for any occasion, including reduced prices for shared school concert fundraisers. Just contact Rory Snyder at 925-284-8526 or email@example.com
