What could be more fun than a musical night on the town with the legendary pianist Victoria Theodore? A major talent in her own right, Victoria also happens to be Stevie Wonder’s keyboardist and backup singer, with whom she has travelled around the world. Taking the stage with Victoria tonight for an all-out holiday extravaganza are Kevin Wong & the BASSment, one of the most gifted and versatile bands discovered by Bay Area music fans in recent years. Please join us tonight for a musical banquet which serves up jazz, blues, soulful funk, high energy rock and everything in between to create a star-studded evening of musical chemistry.
Victoria Theodore studied piano at Oberlin College/Conservatory of Music with Sedmara Zakarian Rutstein, and received her Master’s in Classical Piano Performance from Stanford University. She also studied with piano with Eugene Gash, the first African-American concert pianist to perform a solo concert at Carnegie Hall.
She has performed with a long list of symphonies, ensembles and bands, and toured nationally as a keyboardist for Capitol Records’ Oaktown 357, produced by M.C. Hammer. Beginning in August, 2007, Victoria was hired to tour with legendary musical genius Stevie Wonder, playing keyboards and singing background vocals in his band, and appearing on television, in films, and in DVDs in addition to performing on major stages around the world. Victoria is a highly respected, dazzlingly original Bay Area pianist who teaches and performs locally when she’s not touring or collaborating with various R&B, jazz, gospel, pop and classical artists.
The BASSment is an ensemble of the best and brightest young stars on the current music scene in California. Composed of musicians who combine innate talent with sparkling original tunes, humor, style, and a dynamic musical signature which has garnered acclaim from the moment they first took the stage years ago, the band showcases the gifts of the inspired guitarist Cedricke Dennis, phenomenal key bassist/organist and bandleader Kevin Wong, the always amazing Dante McClinton on drums, with Daniel Casares taking the show to new heights on sax.
Born with perfect pitch, Kevin Wong, the leader of this talented quartet, holds down the keys & Hammond sounds with his right hand while his left picks up the bass lines. Their album Movin’ Air, released in April 2012, features original songs which pioneer a whole new sound on the jazz horizon. The S.F. Examiner called BASSment "... a collective of exceptionally talented musicians with a unique combination of virtuosity, chemistry, emotion and feel."
Please join us for this very special once-a-year party and holiday blowout tonight at Jack London Square featuring Victoria Theodore with Daniel Parenti on bass and Tommie Bradford on drums , along with Kevin Wong & the BASSment. Both ensembles are guaranteed to make your spirits soar and warm your soul.
